Sunset Expander is a set of devices designed to be implemented in any city. It consists of various low-tech “machines” — social, somatic, and participatory in nature — together with an associated interactive website.
It includes the following proposals: “Performative Implementation in Four Acts of the SUNSET EXPANDER”; “SUNSET in Three”; “Three SUNSETS in One”; “Floating SUNSET”; and “Hanging SUNSET.”
The Sunset Expander is an instrument for transforming urban public space, a facilitator of situations outside the norm aimed at intensifying “beauty now,” in a single moment. Time is one of its main design agents. It seeks to capture a moment shared in the lives of all citizens and intensify it, encouraging perception in the here and now, both on an urban scale and through small gestures.
It is also a platform for expression, giving voice to the inhabitants. Its tools are playful and encourage creative expansion through celebration. The machines or devices are means of intensifying what already happens spontaneously in a place and seek to expand the possibilities of imagination. They act as triggers for situations.
Promoter: Gálvez+Wieczorek & Colectivo TOUCHandGOreality.
Project awarded an EEA GRANT by the Norwegian Embassy in Spain.
